Down Syndrome and Other Genetic Disorders
Therapy Success offers therapeutic treatments for a variety of genetic disorders, including Down Syndrome. Effective early intervention is important for children with genetic disorders to ensure optimal outcomes.
Down Syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by chromosonal abnormalities. It is associated with intellectual, speech, and language delay and disability as well as attention and learning problems. Physical symptoms may include a weak muscle tone in infancy, heart defects, and digestive problems amongst other conditions. There is also an increased risk of hearing and vision problems.
Interventions
Both of the programs below work on an epigenetic level making them effective for a range of genetic disorders.
The powerful MNRI® Method is used to treat genetic disorders through addressing the fact that language, cognition, and motor systems are all linked domains. This extremely effective therapeutic intervention helps the brainstem re-pattern this underlying sensory-motor-cognition system for better regulation, learning, and movement control. As the only Masgutova Certified Core Specialist in the country who has completed training in 11 MNRI® protocols, Colleen-Maree Bates offers unique expertise in this powerful form of intervention.
The Tomatis® Method works on the neural circuits involved in balance, coordination, and the decoding and analysis of sounds. It aims to help children with Down syndrome and other genetic disorders develop strategies to manage their movement, learning, and communication difficulties. As the first WA licensed provider of the Tomatis® Method, Colleen-Maree Bates possesses extensive experience in the effective application of its techniques.
Social Thinking
In normal development, social thinking is neurologically hard-wired and learned from a young age. However, many children with Down syndrome lack the ability to intuitively absorb social information and think about how others perceive the world. They need to be taught these skills in a clear and explicit way.
Social Thinking is a program designed for people with social learning disabilities. It teaches how to think socially through considering and interpreting the points of view, emotions, and intentions of others. It is extremely effective in helping those with Down syndrome improve social interaction in a wide range of contexts.
Other interventions The symptoms of Down syndrome have been shown to greatly benefit from dietary modifications and restrictions. Colleen-Maree Bates is trained in childhood nutrition and will use this expertise to tailor a treatment plan to your child.
Another powerful treatment option offered by Therapy Success is the Alert Program® for Self-Regulation. This program provides children with language and skills to better plan and control their own behaviour.
