Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a condition that is triggered by exposure to a traumatic event. While fear and physiological arousal are natural responses in the face of extreme threat, they persist in those with PTSD. Symptoms include flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety, and avoidance of situations associated with the original trauma.

Interventions

Extreme stress or trauma activate automatic survival responses on the part of the brain. Effective treatments for PTSD address these genetically inherent behaviors at a physiological level.

MNRI®

The MNRI® Method as applied to the treatment of PTSD is a recovery intervention based on the idea of reflex integration. It uses the sensory motor links of the reflex circuit to channel brain stem anchors (self-preservation, territorial and power instincts) for positive survival tactics. Instead of the brain reverting to split-second, 'fight-or-fight' responses in safe or neutral situations, MNRI® helps those with PTSD transition to a healthy 'here-and-now' experience. As the only Level 3 Masgutova specialist in the country who has completed training in 7 MNRI® protocols, Colleen-Maree Bates is uniquely positioned to implement this powerful form of intervention.

Tomatis®

The sensory stimulation of the brain through auditory channels usually has a relaxing effect. However, the disruption of this process may occur when the brain activates mechanisms of protection, as in the case of trauma or shock. The Tomatis® Method intervenes in the regulation of emotional disorders by acting on the limbic system and prefrontal cortex. This powerful method of sensory stimulation ultimately acts to regulate feelings of stress. As the first WA licensed provider of the Tomatis® Method, Colleen-Maree Bates possesses extensive experience in the effective application of its techniques.
