Learning Difficulties

Learning difficulties can have significant impact on the lives of sufferers. Language and communication delays have been linked to underachievement in school and workplaces, social withdrawal, and disordered sleep and eating patterns. Effective and individualised treatment is extremely important to improving personal outcomes.

Interventions

Learning difficulties have important listening, speaking, developmental, and motor control and movement components. The powerful strategies Colleen-Marie employs are designed to address each of these aspects to enact positive change.

MNRI®

The powerful MNRI® Method is used to treat learning difficulties through addressing the fact that language and cognition all stem from motor development. Movement and motor control problems can be observed in people with learning difficulties, including poor balance, coordination, posture, and spatial orientation. People also exhibit problems with fine and gross motor coordination such as poor handwriting and clumsy and awkward body movements. MNRI® is an effective therapeutic intervention that helps the brainstem re-pattern this underlying sensory-motor-cognition system for better learning, self-regulation, and movement. As the only Level 3 Masgutova specialist in the country who has completed training in 7 MNRI® protocols, Colleen-Maree Bates offers unique expertise in this powerful form of intervention.

Tomatis®

People with learning difficulties often display auditory problems including the need to have instruction repeated, misinterpreting communications, and difficulty participating in conversations in noisy environments. Clinical histories from centers using the Tomatis® Method have further observed unusually high incidence of difficult births, recurring ear infections in the first years of life, and language and motor development delays in those with learning difficulties. The Tomatis® Method works on the neural circuits involved in balance, coordination, and the decoding and analysis of sounds. It helps children develop strategies to manage their learning and language difficulties. As the first WA licensed provider of the Tomatis® Method, Colleen-Maree Bates possesses extensive experience in the effective application of its techniques.

Other methods

Learning difficulties are further addressed through complementary traditional literacy and numeracy plans. We believe that no two people are the same. Educational programs are completely tailored to the individual needs and goals of each person.
